Casa CRETAZ

Casa CRETAZ

The project involves the demolition of the existing buildings and their reconstruction on the same footprint, taking advantage of the natural slope of the site to create a partially underground basement level. This level accommodates the main entrance, a recreation room, boiler room, ski room, and ancillary spaces.
The first above-ground floor houses the sleeping area with bedrooms and bathrooms, while the top mansard level is dedicated to an open-plan living area, articulated into three distinct zones by a central structural pillar incorporated into a wood-burning fireplace.
The building is composed of two main volumes: a vertical, solid stone volume and a larger, lighter wooden volume featuring overhangs and panoramic balconies overlooking the valley and the Matterhorn. Balconies and cantilevered elements are clad in grey metal sheeting, while the wooden surfaces reinterpret traditional rascard architecture through larch boarding and regular timber logs that also function as brise-soleil.
The basement level and plinth are finished in exposed stone, the roof is clad in traditional stone slabs, and the garden integrates terraces and landscaped green areas. Grey aluminum window frames maximize glazing to ensure generous natural light throughout the interiors.
